 Ali Carter turned pro in 1996 & he really started out in 1999 when he won the WPBSA Association Young Player of the Year Award. After winning the Benson & Hedges Championship in 1999 which earned him a wild card place in the masters. He also reached the semi-finals of the 1999 Grand Prix & then in 2007 he reached the semi-finals again at the Malta Cup. He was just outside the top 16 for 2 years in 2004 & 2005 then in 2006/2007 he made it & has stayed there ever since. He reached the last 16 in 2005 at the World Snooker Championship after scoring the first 10.0 victory in the event since 1993 against 1993 semi-finalist James Wattana. In the 2007 World Championship he beat Andy Hicks in the first round 10,4, before beating world number 1 seven time champion Steven Hendry 13-6 to reach his first World Championship qusrter-final & guarantee a place in the top 16. He played Barry Hawkins in the 2008 World Championship & beat him 10-9. Ali scored his first 147 break on April 29th at the 2008 World Championship which made Ali the sixth man to do this at the Crucible. He won his second non-ranking tournament at the Huangshan Cup in 2008 against Marco Fu with a 5-3 win. Finally after 13 years of effort & perseverance he won his first ranking tournament against Joe Swail at the Welsh Open. Ali pacticed snooker at the Rivermead Snooker club in Chelmsford which later he bought & is now the new owner. Ali is also very interested in flying & is a qualified pilot. Looking back over the past 2 years it seems that the skys the limit literally for Ali.
